Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!

We are extremely excited to kick off the 2017-2018 school year!  It's been a busy and full summer. We hosted our maker summer school, teacher professional development, kindergarten camp, and completed a whole lot of housekeeping in preparation for the new year. A huge shout out goes to our amazing custodial staff who have worked relentlessly this summer to make our school shine and to the office staff who work behind the scenes to prepare us all for the new year.

This week, as the teachers returned to school, the excitement in the air was palpable. There is nothing we educator's love more than meeting and greeting our new students each year!

I enjoy volunteering in the community and spending time with family.  I am excited to be joining the Stone-Robinson community!

Rhonda Page  - Office Associate

My name is Rhonda Page and I am the new Registrar at Stone-Robinson Elementary School.  My husband Mark and I live in Gordonsville where we enjoy spending time with our children and four grandchildren.  I most recently served as an Executive Assistant where my focus was human resources and financial management. I am really looking forward to becoming a part of the Stone-Robinson community!

Kelly Oehler - 2nd Grade Teacher
Born and raised in Northern Virginia, I attended Appalachian State University in North Carolina where I received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 2000. I began my teaching career in North Carolina in grades 2nd-5th while my husband was serving in the US Army.  After six years and the birth of our 1st child in 2007, we moved back to Virginia, and I joined the ACPS staff in 2008 serving at Meriwether Lewis School.  I had a fantastic career there for 9 years teaching grades K-3rd. In May of 2015, I completed my graduate coursework at James Madison University in their Master of Education program and also became a licensed reading specialist. After buying our house in Scottsville, I desired a shorter work commute and was so excited when I was offered a transfer to Stone-Robinson.  I have heard so many wonderful things about the staff and community here and I look forward to forming new relationships.

Kris Elsie - 4th Grade Teacher

I'm Kris Elsie and am very excited to be joining the fourth grade team. This will be my 23rd year teaching, most of which had been spent in fourth grade. Before SRES, I taught at Brownsville and Woodbrook Elementary Schools.  I moved to Albemarle County ten years ago when my husband took a job here. I live in Spring Creek with my husband Geoff and two children Gavyn and Raygan. In my spare time, I love reading, shopping, and spending time with friends and family. I look forward to meeting all the wonderful families of Stone Robinson.

Tal Thompson - 5th Grade Teacher

My name is Tal Thompson and I have been teaching for 17 years. I have spent most of my career teaching 4th and 5th grade and I have taught in South Carolina, Colorado, Michigan, and Illinois. My wife, Ann, and I have two amazing boys. Reece will be in 4th grade and Cole is 2 years old.  I am extremely excited to join the Stone- Robinson family and bring my family into the community as well. Looking forward to an amazing 2017-18 school year!

Rachel Smith - Music Teacher

Hello!  My name is Rachel Smith, and I come to Stone-Robinson from right across the county where I taught music at Brownsville Elementary for the last two years.  Prior to my time there, I completed my Bachelor of Music in Music Education and minor in Jazz Studies at James Madison University.  Now I regularly gig as a saxophonist and woodwind doubler, sing in the Virginia Consort Festival Chorus, and I recently completed the Smithsonian Folkways World Music Pedagogy certification at West Virginia University.  I look forward to making music with everyone at Stone-Robinson this year!

Karen Heathcock - Gifted Resource/Talent Development Teacher

kheathcock image.jpegMy name is Karen Heathcock and I am thrilled to be joining the Stone Robinson team. As the school’s gifted resource/talent development teacher, I will be working with classroom teachers and specialists to provide academic enrichment and differentiation to students in all grade levels across all subject areas.I am a proud career switcher who came to teaching 12 years ago. In that time, I have had the good fortune of being a classroom teacher, a reading/math intervention teacher, a STEM teacher, and a gifted resource teacher. Each of these experiences has informed my instructional philosophy and validated my belief that we have a responsibility to meet students where they are and to keep pace with the rapidly changing technologies that are impacting how students learn, interact, and demonstrate knowledge. One of the primary reasons I entered education after more than a decade in another field is because I am drawn to the premise of teaching as a constantly evolving practice. As the school’s gifted resource teacher, I will work to support the strengths and passions of all of our students.

On a more personal note, I have lived in Virginia for 16 years. Before coming to Albemarle County seven years ago, I lived and taught in Arlington. My husband and I are parents to two middle school boys who keep us busy and entertained.

I look forward to getting to know the students and families of SRES and I look forward to getting the year started!

See you soon,
Karen
